Each is trialed across a range of Panhandle field conditions, including dryland and limited irrigation, before we recommend it to farmers.

We carry high-quality forage sorghum, sorghum-sudangrass hybrids, and haygrazer varieties built for the demanding summers of West Texas. These products are evaluated for tonnage, quality, palatability, and drought performance. We prioritize varieties that give cattle and livestock producers the most nutrition per acre.

Beyond commodity crops, we track specialty markets and emerging opportunities. From pearl millet for wildlife and forage, to triticale blends for cover and grazing, we source products that expand what's possible for Panhandle operations of all sizes and types.

We pay close attention to disease and pest resistance packages when evaluating any variety. Stripe rust, aphid pressure, and soil-borne pathogens are real concerns in our region. We prioritize genetics that hold up when conditions get tough, so you don't have to fight your seed as well as the weather.

Water is the most precious resource in the Texas Panhandle, and it's getting more scarce. We specifically evaluate varieties under stress conditions — including limited or no irrigation — to identify which genetics can hold yield when rainfall falls short. We share those results with our customers every season.

A variety that wins in Kansas doesn't always win in the Texas Panhandle. We partner with breeders who conduct wide-area performance testing — from the Southern Plains to the Rolling Plains — and then we validate results locally. The goal is always to find varieties that are adapted to your specific zip code, not just the region.

Triticale & Sorghum Research

Triticale — a cross between wheat and rye — has emerged as one of the most versatile crops available to Panhandle producers. We carry both 813 and gunner triticale varieties, which are proving to deliver outstanding forage quality and winter grazing options without the management challenges of traditional rye.

Our forage and grain sorghum work focuses on varieties built for West Texas heat and limited moisture — delivering dependable tonnage and grazing flexibility. We continually evaluate sorghum performance and component varieties based on real West Texas results.
